Indiana Walleye Outing

Winona lake

Indiana Walleye and Indiana Fishing & Hotspots members  ( http://www.indianainfo.net )  join together to have a outing at Winona lake fairgrounds campgrounds on July 9th, 10th and 11th, 2004. Located at 1400 E Smith Street,  Warsaw, IN.,

Winona lake has walleye, largemouth bass, crappie, nice bluegill, channel catfish, rock bass, white bass, yellow perch & northern pike. Its right at the edge of town, and also close to 50 or so other lakes. It is 562 acres and a max depth of 80 ft. They have around 40 campsites and a new shower/bathroom facility. There is a bait store less than 2 miles away. Also if anyone wants to fish from shoreline, there is plenty of area at Winona by the campgrounds or Pike lake in Warsaw has plenty of shoreline, and has walleye, bass, pike, white bass, crappie, bluegill, and is only 1.5 miles from Winona lake.

Cagles Mill

First Indiana Walleye outing was what I beleive is the beginning to many fun outings to come. We had 29 angler's show up for our first event. I would like to thank everyone for showing up, and helping to put it together. Panfishhead and stizo pete, Les and Shawn, Fireman220 and I got there on Friday, and had the opportunity to set up in the rain...lol. We thought about getting out on the reservoir, but we were wet and decided to wait for saturday. We took the time to get to know each other and tell some fishing stories. We got up  around 5:30 and Les and Shawn made a fine breakfast for us all. We headed down to the ramp to see a bunch of rigs waiting to have a meet and greet. I was really suprised to see all the guys show up because of the heavy rains we had Friday, and the forecast that was predicted for Saturday. The morning started out with some fog that soon lifted to overcast sky's. Soon the sun came out to what turned out to be a very beautiful day. The reservoir is a beauty, with rocky shorelines and plenty of stumps and points to fish. I think the heavy rains that muddied up most of the water, and being prespawn, it made the walleye fishing very tough. Even though I didnt hear of any walleye caught, I beleive this would be a great location for a future outing. From what I've heard walleye fishing was tough all over the state this last weekend. From the stocking and survey reports that I have received from the IDNR I beleive this will be a good place to try again later this year.

On a personal note, I had a great time meeting everyone and spending the day fishing with Rusty (Fireman220). We had plenty of great conversation all day and alot of laughs, thanks Rusty for sharing the day together and the use of your depth finder.

Thanks again to everyone.
Doug Burkhead
